Propaganda Working Group
MAC has recently created a mandate for a propaganda working group. We meet on the second Sunday of every month, with this month falling on the 13th. Meeting at 1:00pm, poster run at 2:00pm.
The Propaganda Working Group is an opportunity to meet up and exchange information: leaflets, stickers, posters, pamphlets, and have them distributed around each others networks. We also talk about potential projects, and go on a poster run.
Kulon Progo Info Night – A Tale of Sand and Those Who Feed From It
Wednesday, September 28 · 6:30pm - 9:30pm.
62 St Georges Rd, Northcote (Melbourne Anarchist Club)
**6.30 for 7pm films**
Thousands of farmers across the communities of Kulon Progo, Central Java, Indonesia, are fighting for their land and very survival.
A joint Australian-Indonesian consortium is seeking to mine iron-ore, and with a pilot project running and the full backing of the state they look set to go ahead.
The people of Kulon Progo are calling for global solidarity in their struggle against the mining and dispossession, and for self determination. But they especially call on us in Australia to take action to stop Australian involvement in the project.
For generations oppressed by colonial occupiers and impoverished by the very land they live on, the communities of Kulon Progo have turned marginal coastline into a farming success story. Something they describe as a blueprint for communities across Indonesia.
Come find out about one of the most amazing untold stories of community agriculture, grass-roots organising, and the fight for land rights and self determination.
Climate Change – State Action or Direct Action?
The next Fantin Reading Group session has been organizado and is ready to go!:
Climate Change – State Action or Direct Action?
We're heading into an era when the question of whether the state can save capitalism in a context of envionmental collapse is one of the most important strategical questions of our time. It seems increasingly unlikely that governments are capable of responding within the predicted 10 years we have to prevent dangerous climate change. Is there still potential for a grassroots climate revolution? Or are we all completely fucked?
1-3pm, Saturday 24 September @ the Melbourne Anarchist Club, 62 St Georges Rd Northcote.
Readings (optional) are available from the Fantin Reading Group Blog (past readings are also available on the site). They include a text by energy activist Kolya Abramsky and a statement on environmental working-class revolution by a member of the First of May Anarchist Alliance.
All welcome, hope to see you there!
Mutiny #61
Issue #61 of Mutiny zine has hit the interwebs. Of note is an interview with a Greek hound and a report of a surreal attempt by a policeman to get involved with Jura (Sydney).
the dole army
The Dole Army was a classic hoax perpetrated by some Melbourne anarchists in 2002.
Fantin Reading Group: Police repression in Victoria
3-5pm, Sunday 31st of July.
Victoria's police state is thriving. Ted Baillieu's new 'Public Order Response Team'. New knife laws that allow police to search people in 'designated areas' without reasonable suspicion that any crime has been committed. Police brutality at a Maribrynong refugee protest. The arrest of 19 protesters at a BDS demonstration. Plus, police now have automatic weapons. Hooray!
Come to the Melbourne Anarchist Club to discuss these new developments and how we can defend our right to protest. All welcome!
Readings (optional) will be posted on the Fantin blog closer to the date.
Melbourne Anarchist Bookfair

MAC will be having a stall at the upcoming Anarchist Bookfair. Some members will also be speaking at workshops about anarchism.

Propaganda working group
Sunday August 7: 12:00pm meeting, 1pm poster run.
Some members of MAC have come together to form a working group around spreading anarchist propaganda in Melbourne.
